Subject syllabus

Lecture:

Metrology and its relevance, measuring chain, sensors, converters, measurement systems, basic features of the measure devices.
Temperature measurement - contact methods, types of thermocouples, resistance thermometers, thermistor thermometers, compensation lines.
Non-contact temperature measurement, total-band pyrometers, spectral-band pyrometers, ratio pyrometers. Pyrometers calibration.
Pressure measurement, physical principle of the measurement method, types of gauges.
Gas analysis, chemical analyzers, infra-red analyzers, magnetic analyzers, electro-chemical analyzers, sampling equipment.
Humidity measurement, principles of the measurement, types of hygrometers.
Measure of the volumetric and mass flow, velocity meters, volume meters, parabolic nozzles, discharge nozzles, mechanical and thermo anemometers.
Determination of solid emissions, measurement methodology.
Loggers. Memory systems. Measured results evaluation using computer.

Exercises:

1. Determination of measuring devices errors.
2. The glass thermometer correction in a constant immersing in dependence on the temperature.
3. Determination of the glass thermometer immersion depth correction in the case of constant temperature of 55 °C.
4. Measurement of thermocouples dynamic properties.
5. Determination of the resistance thermometer temperature dependence.
6. Determination of thermal emission factor.
7. Accuracy verification of brightness pyrometer.
8. Determination of the thermocouple type from calibrating curves.
9. Determination of the damp air volume and mass flow.
10. Heat transfer by radiation.
