Subject syllabus

1. Requirements for raw materials for production of industrial glass. Relations between types of raw materials and glass properties. Batch preparation and optimization of their composition.
2. The glass characterization, glass structure, methods for preparation of glass, glass transformation.
3. Viscosity of glass, its dependence on temperature and composition of molten glass. Nucleation and crystallization of glass, surface tension
4. The Chemical and physical processes of melting (reaction of components, dissolving of solids phase in melt, glass refinement, solubility of gasses in molten glass and homogenization process.
5. The furnaces for glass production, thermal energy utilization of combustion products, flowing of molten glass.
6. Glass shaping, procedures, machinery. Tensions in glass, controlled methods of glass cooling.
7. The fundamental properties of glass (mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, chemical resistance
8. The main types of industrial glasses (silicate glass, water glass, packing glass, flat glass, thermal resistant glass, low alkali content glass, special glass).
9. Glass-ceramic materials, manufacturing principle, types, properties and utilization of glass-ceramics products.
10. Requirements for raw materials for production ceramic materials. Preparation of raw materials, rheological properties of ingredients for ceramic production.
11. Forming methods of ceramic products, methods of surface treatment of ceramic materials.
12. The thermal treatment of ceramic, development of phase composition and creation of microstructure during the sintering process. Principles of function of continuous furnace and periodic furnace for ceramic materials production.
13. Porcelain – types, production advancement, decoration, properties. China sanitary, whiteware, sanitary ceramics, stoneware and pottery.
14. Brick, types, preparation and defect of products, methods for measure of properties of brick materials, use of alternative materials on field ceramic materials.
