Subject syllabus

• Definition of refractory materials.
• Classification refractory materials according ČSN EN 12475- 1 až 4.
• Chemical and mineralogical composition of refractory materials. Base oxides: Al2O3 a SiO2, CaO, MgO, ZrO2, Cr2O3.
• Properties of refractory materials. Criteria of density, mechanical properties, thermal properties, thermomechanical properties and thermochemical and thermophysical properties.
• The aluminosilicate materials I. Silica bricks.
• The aluminosilicate materials II. Fireclay and high-alumina bricks.
• Acid resistence brick. Magnesia bricks. Magnesia-carbon brick. Magnesia-chromite brick. Chromite brick. Magnesia-spinel bricks Spinel brick. Dolomite, dolomite-magnesia bricks. Forsterite bricks.
• Special materials. Zirconia brick. Carbon and graphite brick.
• Non-oxidic materials. Boron –nitride ceramic. Silicon-nitride ceramic.
• Unshaped refractory materials. Terms, classification, application.
• Refractory castables. Terms, classification, application.
• Heat – insulation materials. Terms, classification, application.
• Application of refractory products and market distribution.
