Refractory materials

Summary

The subject is focused on the theoretical and practical education in the field of refractory materials. Students will acquaint with the key concepts, classification of refractory materials, properties and methods of testing, chemical and mineralogical composition, mechanical, thermal, thermomechanical properties. The content will be the raw material for the production of refractory materials, drying and sintering and their division for shaped refractory products: silica, fireclay, magnesium, magnesium-calcium, and magnesium spinel-silica, zirconia and zirconium, carbon, silica-carbide and unshaped refractory materials hydraulic, chemical and ceramic binder, as well as special refractory materials, lightweight refractory materials and insulation and fibrous materials. The subject includes excursions to businesses and consumers, manufacturers of refractory materials. Students prepare semester project.
