Precious and Noble Metals

Summary

We classify silver, gold and metals of platinum group to so called “precious
metals”, which find broad utilisation in electrical engineering and
microelectronics. This concerns particularly electrical conductivity and
stability of surface quality of metal (Au). Metals that are difficult to fuse,
such as W, Mo, Ta, Nb and others, are interesting particularly for the area of
vacuum engineering. Some metals of rare occurrence find their application in
the area of functional materials (magnetic materials, luminophores, etc.).
Students learn information about production of these metals, influence of
admixtures to their properties, possibilities of their modification and
practical application.
