Subject syllabus

1. Basic types of vehicle brake systems with a focus on passenger cars.
2. Brake materials - their groups, definition of the basic components of brake materials, their functions and production.
3. Automotive braking – braking mechanism, changes in brake materials, friction layer and its effect on braking efficiency. The formation of wear particles and their influence on the service life of individual components of a brake system.
4. Testing methods of the friction-wear properties of materials for automotive brake systems - laboratory and field tests. Arrangement of tests, standard test procedures, examples of obtained data and their interpretation.
5. Behavior of brake materials under different operating conditions – high brake temperatures, air humidity, de-icing salt solutions, etc.
6. Emission of solid particles - mechanism of formation, nature, methods of measurement and characterization of the chemical composition and morphology of wear particles.
7. Emission of gaseous particles - mechanism of formation, methods of measurement and characterization.
8. Legislative framework of emissions from non-combustion processes in transport - prepared legislation for the control and regulation of particle emissions.
