Subject syllabus

1. Environment and pollutants : Basic concepts and principles of environmental protection legislation in the field of environment: laws, government regulations, decrees.. The basic classification and characteristics of pollutants. The impact assessment on the environment, the competent authorities.
2. Industrial waste : The basic differentiation of waste. Law 185/2001 Code. Product waste-separation into groups. Characteristics of industrial wastes. Principles of disposal and industrial waste treatment and waste economy. Landfill options of combustion. Recycling of waste and recycling technologie.
3. BAT - best available technology, implementation a European Commission decision 2012/135/EU, BREF for the production of iron and steel. LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)
in metallurgy.
4. Cokemaking and the Environment : The processes in the manufacture of coke, coal treatment and preparation, coking, pushing, getting tar from coke oven gas. Coal sludge, coke dust, processing residues from coke facilities. Emissions to air, water and soil pollution, BAT - measures integrated into the process.
5. Production of sinter and environmental characteristics of agglomeration process, emissions of SO2, NOx, CO and pollutants in the agglomeration process. Solid waste, recycling waste from metallurgy, BAT-measures integrated into the process.Pellet production and the environment, technology of production, characteristics of emissions, waste water, solid waste, recycling waste from metallurgy, BAT-measures integrated into the process.
6. Production of iron and the Environment : The procedures of iron (sponge iron) in the Czech Republic and abroad. Characteristics of blast-furnace production, division of harmful substances in the blast furnace iron production, recycling of wastes from metallurgical, BAT - measures integrated into the process. Characteristics and distribution of alternative ironmaking gas emissions, waste water, by-products, comparison of technologies.
7. Steel production and the Environment : Current methods of steel production from the environmental point of view. Characterization and classification of waste, waste in the production of steel in an oxygen converter, exhausted gas emissions, waste water, solid waste, by-products.Production of steel in electric arc furnaces, the characteristics of manufacturing process for gas emissions, waste water, solid waste, water and soil contamination, BAT - measures integrated into the process
8. Waste from foundry, gaseous emissions, waste water, waste recycling, BAT - measures integrated into the process.
9.Waste during forming, gaseous emissions, wastewater, waste recycling, BAT - measures integrated into the process.
10. New procedures trapping pollutants: electrostatic and bag filters. Characteristics and legislative framework. The use of captured particles. New possibilities of using fine grain waste.
11. Use of the LCA method within the environment. Basic concepts of LCA: ecophilosophy, sozology, sociotechnics, sustainable development, carbon footprint, ecological efficiency, environmental footprint, definition of LCI, tools for performing LCA analysis, environmental management systems (individual types), ISO 1400 standard.
