Subject syllabus

1. Production of metals, pig iron and steel: history and present. Characteristics of the development of metals, iron and steel production in the world and in the Czech Republic. Theoretical foundations of metal and pig iron production. Basic reactions in blast and shaft furnaces. Modern methods of production intensification.
2. Raw materials for the production of metals, pig iron and steel: metal-bearing ores, slag-forming additives. Requirements, properties and treatment options. Agglomeration and pelletization of ores.
3. Fuels for pig iron production: coke-its production, properties. Quality requirements. Preparation of blast furnace charge. Modern requirements for the quality of raw materials for blast furnace.
4. Counter-current of charge and gas in blast and shaft furnace, basic principles. Consumption of reducing gas. Thermodynamic, kinetic and thermal processes in the oxidation zone of the blast furnace.
5. Production of metals, pig iron and steel. Basic reactions in blast and shaft furnace. Reduction of iron oxides. Direct and indirect reduction. Physico-chemical processes in the oxidation spaces of the blast furnace.
6. Modern blast furnace process control technology. Main parts of the blast furnace. Innovative indicators of blast furnace production. Products of production pig iron, blast furnace slag, blast furnace gas.
7. Slags, characteristics, their role and basic distribution.
8. Modern refractories used in furnace aggregates in metal production, distribution, characteristics and their use.
9. Basic steelmaking reactions, carbon reaction, oxidation of Si, Mn, dephosphorylation, desulphurization of steel, reaction conditions.
10. Steel production in oxygen converters and EOP. Modern process control procedures.
11. Refining procedures for metal preparation. Innovative technologies.
12. Metal casting technology. Continuous casting of steel.
13. Modern processes in metal production. Characteristics of processes. Use of elements of intensification.
