Diffusion in the solid state - thermodynamics of diffusion processes, basic mechanisms, substitutional, interstitial diffusion; Fick's laws of diffusion - derivation, utilization; autodiffusion, diffusion in dilute solid solutions, interdiffusion - Kirkendall effect, Darken’s equation; channels of increased diffusivity; diffusion in non-isomorphic systems, etc.
Strengthening mechanisms in metallic materials - basic mechanisms - grain boundary strengthening, plastic deformation strengthening, precipitation strengthening, solid solution strengthening, role of strengthening reinforcement rolls in material design; advantages, disadvantages of individual strengthening mechanisms, etc.
Segregation processes in metallic materials - segregation phenomena, macroscopic segregation, dendritic segregation, micro-segregation at the grain boundaries, or micro-segregation in other interfaces; theoretical solutions, segregation in multiphase systems - competitive segregation, co-segregation, consequences of segregation processes.
Recrystallization in metallic materials and related processes - thermodynamics of recrystallization; basic stages of recrystallization processes, influence of decisive parameters on the process of recrystallization; preferred orientation, using of recrystallization processes.
