Lectures - main topics
1. Introduction – overview of technical materials.
2. Internal structure of solids - crystal lattices, lattice disorders.
3. Methods of characterizing the structure of materials.
4. Fundamentals of testing mechanical properties.
5. Crystallization of metals and alloys, basic binary diagrams.
6. Iron-carbon diagram. Crystallization of alloys with graded carbon content.
7. Characteristics of steels, types, optimization of structure and properties.
8. Basics of heat treatment of steels.
9. Overview of technically important non-ferrous metals.
10. Ceramic materials - porous and technical ceramics, examples, properties, application.
11. Polymer materials - technical significance of macromolecular substances. Basic classification, most important examples, properties, and application.
12. Composite materials - classification of composite materials by reinforcement (particle, fiber composites), division by matrix (polymer, metal, ceramic), examples, properties, and application.
13. Progressive methods of processing materials.
