Steels and cast irons

Summary

The aim of this course is to give students a comprehensive overview of the types of iron-based alloys. Students will learn to identify, characterize and understand technically significant types of steels and cast irons. Emphasis will be placed on analytical skills in evaluating the influence of individual elements, heat/chemical/thermal processing and metallurgical processing technology on the structural characteristics and properties of steels and the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
