The aim of the subject is to inform students about ways out, changes and crisis of so called modern society. Students will be taught the basic terms and definitions, key points of modern society and the process of changing the traditional agrarian society into a modern urban one. The emphasis will be put into the changes of mentality, everyday lives and religion ideas of European society between the period of Enlightenment and decline of post-war world.
Modernization: philosophical roots (Enlightenment), the development of the term of modernization theory.
Three basic driving forces: industrialization, demographic revolution and urbanization.
Industrialization I: protoindustrialization, industrialization, and demographic revolution (terms developing, conceptions, theories).
Industrialization II: industrial revolution (typology and periodization), industrial branches and technology development, key periods of economic and social histories in folowed periods.
Urbanization I. Urbanization of European space (European urban nets, aglomeration, conurbation, industrial regions).
Urbanization II. Transportation system and infrastructure, urban culture and living, firm cities.
