Labour economics

Summary

The course focuses on advanced theories and current trends in the functioning of the labour market. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the principles of imperfect competition, including the impact of monopsony, trade unions, and collective bargaining, and will become familiar with issues of discrimination and gender inequalities. Emphasis is placed on the specific features of the Czech labour market, the effects of digitalisation, and the concept of Industry 4.0, as well as the flexibility of employment relations and the growing importance of the gig economy. The course further develops students’ knowledge of mobility, migration, and commuting, the role of social capital, and psychological factors in employability. An integral part of the course is also strategic planning of educational and career trajectories in the context of the changing demands of the labour market.
