In the course "Concrete and Masonry Structures I," students learn about the basic mechanical properties of concrete, steel reinforcement, masonry units, and mortar. They will learn about the design and assessment of reinforced concrete cross-sections for bending, shear, and a combination of normal force and bending moment. They will learn about the assessment of the serviceability limit state of reinforced concrete structures.
Learning outcomes:
- students will explain the basic mechanical properties of concrete, steel reinforcement, masonry units, and mortar,
- apply the principles of design and assessment of reinforced concrete cross-sections for bending, shear, and a combination of normal force and bending moment,
- interpret the results of static calculations of reinforced concrete structures in accordance with applicable standards,
- analyze the design of reinforced concrete cross-sections according to serviceability limit state criteria,
- compare the significance of the design in terms of ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state.
