Language of instruction angličtina, čeština
Code 223-0123
Abbreviation ZSH
Course title Fundamentals of building materials
Coordinating department Department of Building Materials and Diagnostics of Structures
Course coordinator prof. Ing. Vlastimil Bílek, Ph.D.

Summary

Within the course Fundamentals of Building Materials, students acquire basic knowledge of building materials, including their composition, structure, physico-mechanical properties and related chemical principles. This knowledge supports the comprehension of relationships between material microstructure and macroscopic behavior.
Students learn to apply this knowledge in basic assessments of building material properties in engineering practice. At the same time, they develop the ability to analyze material binders and the most common construction materials, such as concrete and ceramics. The acquired insights enable students to perform synthesis of material information for simple structural tasks and to conduct elementary evaluation of material suitability for specific applications.
