Summary

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of the principal types of alternative materials and secondary raw materials used in construction practice. Students develop comprehension of their origin, particularly materials produced as by-products of the energy, metallurgy, and mining industries, as well as materials derived from recycling processes.
The course focuses on the ability to analyze the chemical and mineralogical composition of alternative and secondary materials as a basis for assessing their properties and potential risks. Students are guided to apply this knowledge in basic evaluations of the suitability of these materials for use in construction.
Furthermore, the course supports the synthesis of environmental and construction-related considerations when considering the use of alternative materials. Students learn to carry out evaluation of environmental and structural risks associated with their use, arising from the chemical and mineralogical composition of individual materials.
