Subject syllabus

1. Introduction to the issues of technical building surveys and non-destructive testing.
2. Defects and damages of building structures - causes and consequences.
3. Inspection of building structures - sensory vs. instrumental methods. Surveying building structures.
4. Evaluation of critical points. Non-destructive measurement of deformations and cracks.
5. Non-destructive moisture measurement.
6. Non-destructive testing of material parameters - hardness testing methods.
7. Methods using acoustic waves - ultrasonic pulse method, resonance method, acoustic pulse hammer method.
8. Electromagnetic methods - electromagnetic indication of steel reinforcement, applications of georadar, radiation defectoscopy, radiometry, radiography, CT tomography.
9. Electromagnetic methods - IR thermography.
10. Non-destructive analytical methods.
11. Microscopy and image analysis.
12. Errors and uncertainties of measurements, data analysis.
13. Practical examples.
