Subject syllabus

1. Characteristics of building science disciplines: building mechanics, building dynamics, characteristics of load-bearing building structures, physical quantities, and their units
2. Introduction to building mechanics: motion possibilities of mass objects, degrees of freedom
3. Linear system of forces, planar bundle of forces
4. Static force moment to point, and pair of forces in plane, Varignon's moment theorem
5. Cross-sectional characteristics: center of gravity of simple and composite plane shapes
6. Cross-sectional characteristics: moments of inertia and deviation moments of basic plane shapes and rolled sections
7. Cross-sectional characteristics: moments of inertia and deviation moments of composite plane cross-sections, Steiner's theorem
8. Physical constants and work diagrams of building materials, Hooke's law
9. Stress in load-bearing building structures
10. Deformations in load-bearing building structures
11. Undamped vibration of load-bearing building structures, harmonic oscillatory motion, equation of motion
12. Damped vibration of load-bearing building structures
13. Forced vibration of load-bearing building structures, resonance
