Subject syllabus

1. Introduction to modelling and simulation.
2. Witness simulation software – basic elements, input and output rules.
3. Witness simulation software – basic functions, probability distributions in Witness.
4. Introduction to discrete simulation.
5. Event-driven algorithms.
6. Activity-driven algorithms.
7. Methods for generating pseudo-random numbers.
8. Methods for transforming pseudo-random numbers.
9. Preparation of input data – exploratory data analysis – numerical characteristics of a random sample.
10. Preparation of input data – exploratory data analysis – processing a large random sample, graphical representation of a random sample.
11. Preparation of input data – point estimates of parameters of probability distributions.
12. Evaluation of simulation results – testing for normality – Pearson’s χ² goodness-of-fit test.
13. Evaluation of simulation results – interval estimation of the mean.
