Subject syllabus

1. Introduction to thematic digital cartography, kinds of map, topographic cartography, thematic map, thematic mapping, uses of thematic map.
2. Fundamentals of mathematical cartography.
3. Content of thematic map and map composition.
4. Language of map, cartography semiology, map legend, legend design.
5. Descriptive statistics, statistic data classification.
6. Principles of using colours in thematic maps.
7. Qualitative and quantitative methods of thematic mapping.
8. Thematic map lettering.
9. Classification of thematic map. State maps and thematic state maps of Czech Republic.
10. Digital cartography, spatial data visualization.
11. Visualization of bivariate data.
12. Electronic publishing of maps and atlases. Cartographical possibilities of GeoWeb technology.
13. Introduction to visualization of spatio-temporal data.
