Problem description:

Safety is a hot topic common to all sports. Although organizers of sports events are ever increasing the safety standards of sports activities to reduce the risk of injury, contestants lend themselves to risks associated with each sport. Among other injuries, head injuries belong to most dangerous and may be life-threatening.

Technology description:

Requirements for contestants’ safety especially in sports like skiing and snowboarding were the stimulus for Petr Štefek and his team to design and optimize a ski helmet. They developed a protective helmet inner liner which reduces the risk of head injury, lowers the helmet’s weight and enables skiers perform better.

The technology is based on the modern approaches using 3D print allowing for helmet personalisation. The required parameters are achieved using microrod structures.
