Leisure activities for students in dormitories

The project of Zdeněk Nevím, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

In his project, Zdeněk planned and subsequently implemented social and sports activities that contributed to revitalizing student life in the dormitories. Events such as evenings with board games, chess tournaments, basketball and volleyball tournaments and others were realized regularly and with the help of volunteers from ESN VŠB-TUO. The project connected Czech and foreign students, supported interpersonal relationships, the development of communication in English and teamwork. It managed to attract considerable interest from both Czech and foreign students. Thanks to active cooperation with university employees, it was possible to use university premises for the implementation of some events, which contributed to the greater attractiveness and accessibility of the project for students.

The total amount financed for the project was CZK 30,971 and was used for the purchase of board games and sports equipment, which Czech and foreign students can borrow free of charge during ESN office hours throughout the academic year.

FlexBand VSB-TUO

Project of Ondřej Sankot, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Ondra likes music and created a small flexible orchestra at the university, in which he gradually involves Czech and foreign students from VŠB-TUO, or from other schools in Ostrava. The orchestra's repertoire is simple – pop music or music suitable for street art. You could hear this small musical group in the pre-Christmas time when you come to Menza, in the Vrtule student club or at the Green Light Startup Show.

FlexBand offered VŠB-TUO students another possibility of musical self-realization. Thanks to its informality, it again appealed to a different group of players than a classical orchestra. Due to its size and repertoire, it is also more flexible.

The sum of CZK 27,710 was used for the purchase of sheet music, T-shirts and caps with the emblem of this musical group and for scholarships for the players. Ondra's small orchestra will continue to make life at the university more pleasant with its music.

International Day of Mathematics at VSB-TUO

Project of Eliška Dreveniaková, a student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Project of Eliška Dreveniaková, student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

In the implementation of her project, Eliška was inspired by the International Day of Mathematics, which was announced by UNECSO in 2019. The date was chosen with regard to the American way of writing the date 3.14 reminiscent of the most famous mathematical constant π.

Under her leadership, together with a team of tutors from the Math Support Center and volunteers, they organized a one-day event on 14/03/2024 called: "Celebrating π day: playing with math!". The event was open to mathematics and logic enthusiasts, but also to all students and teachers of our university, high school students and the public. Those interested had the opportunity to spend a pleasant afternoon with mathematics, refreshments, discuss interesting topics and try to solve many mathematical mysteries.

The main goal of the project was to approach mathematics in a fun and relaxed way and to show the everyday use of mathematics in real life. Another, no less important goal was to "close" the students to the Math Support Center and thus give them the courage to visit it.

Eliška used the allocated funds in the amount of CZK 35,267 to buy refreshments, puzzles, print promotional leaflets and scholarships for the students involved. All purchased puzzles and logic games remain available for use by all students in the Math Support Centre.

Upskilling – AI to be creative

Project of Maria Graclíková, a student of the Faculty of Material Science and Technology

IIn this project, Maruška organized interactive workshops on the topic of AI – videos, chatGPT or Midjourney. The aim of the project was to learn how to use new AI tools to create attractive articles, videos and graphics, in such a way that the results reach more students. Thanks to hired specialists from various fields of AI and graphics programs, not only students, but also employees can pass on information about planned events, seminars or workshops much faster.

Both students and university staff participated in these workshops and were able to share their ideas with each other. Thanks to intergenerational feedback, employees can now perceive the needs of students much better and avoid so-called professional blindness.

Funds in the amount of CZK 49,981 were mainly used for the services of lecturers.

Rozkopni.to

The project of Vladislav Glogar, a student of the Faculty of Economics

The aim of Vláď's project was to create a cycle of regular lectures organized at VŠB-TUO focused on personal development, inspiration and self-improvement. These lectures are intended to benefit both university students and the general public.

The first event of Vol. The 1st took place on March 15, 2024, and the Mayor of Ostrava Jan Dohnal himself spoke at it, as a project of students from the student organization Younie, and the director of the Ostrava Transport Company Daniel Morys was the last speaker.

Sequel to Vol.2. took place on 15/05/2024 and the owner of Laura Coffee, Ivo Ptáčník, was the first to present himself, followed by the head of the MSIC stratup team, Adéla Píchová, and finally Mikuláš Hurta from the Nilmore company.

Vláďa himself tried his hand at moderating lectures. It was definitely an experience for him that moved him a lot forward.

The allocated amount of 42 thousand students used it to rent technical equipment, prepare a website, promotional videos and refreshments, which were prepared for speakers and event visitors free of charge.

Exit game from the lesson

Project of Kristýna Zelinková, a student of the Faculty of Economics

Kristýna is a creative person and likes puzzles. Her project was to invent an escape game for other VŠB-TUO students. The theme of the game was the legend of the lost amulet. In the prepared room, the students solved puzzles as a team and found hidden clues that led them to the amulet. The games took place on the basis of prior agreement via the project's Instagram account or as part of the lessons. Thanks to this project, students had the opportunity to relax from their regular studies. The game was aimed at improving communication, creativity and teamwork.

Kristýna received 40,000 for the project, of which she used CZK 27,202 to buy tools and materials for game preparation and a scholarship. We are currently negotiating spaces in the dormitories where the game would be moved from the old EkF building and students could play it again in the next semester.

Renovation of the dorm music room

Project of Ondřej Sankot, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

The goal of Ondra's project was to improve the acoustics of the room in the dormitories. Its soundproofing, installation of acoustic foam and laying of load-bearing carpet. The students did all the modifications to the room themselves. A partial goal was to equip the room with a drum kit.

Thanks to Ondro's project, a space was created in the dormitories in which the conditions are suitable for practicing playing musical instruments. Both individuals and small groups of up to 7 players can practice playing a musical instrument in the room, depending on the size of the room.

The project was implemented in cooperation with the Department of Dorms and Menz VŠB-TUO, which participated financially in it. Studentopolis financed the purchase of a drum kit and other small items in the total amount of CZK 9,892.
