Clothing Collection for Those in Need at VSB-TUO Dormitories in Cooperation with Diakonie Broumov

VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, in collaboration with Diakonie Broumov, is launching a collection of unwanted clothing to be distributed to people in need. This project represents an ideal connection between social assistance and a sustainable approach to the environment. The goal is to provide disadvantaged individuals with a chance for a better life while contributing to more responsible material resource management.

Clothing is often one of the items that end up in landfills, even though it could still be used. Thanks to the cooperation with Diakonie Broumov, this clothing is given a second chance while helping those who need it the most. The project supports the circular economy by extending the life cycle of textiles and preventing unnecessary waste.

The container is located in the VSB-TUO dormitory area next to the ALZA vending machine, providing easy access for students, staff, and local residents. The clothing deposited in the container should be clean and well-packaged, allowing it to be easily sorted and reused.

Diakonie Broumov, which oversees the project, is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive assistance to people in difficult life situations. It specializes in social services and support for disadvantaged groups, including the homeless, unemployed, and low-income families. Diakonie not only collects and distributes clothing but also recycles it, contributing to environmental protection. Thus, the project serves not only as a means of helping those in need but also as a tool for sustainability.

This initiative is not just about donating clothing but also about fostering a conscious approach to consumption and supporting sustainability. In a time when environmental problems are continuously increasing, it is essential to find ways to reduce our impact on the planet. With this step, VSB-TUO demonstrates that sustainability is an integral part of its mission and responsibility to the community and nature.

Special thanks go to the ESN VSB-TUO student organization, which initiated this project and, through its activities, supported not only social assistance but also sustainability at the university, with the goal of contributing to social aid and promoting a sustainable approach to life.
