FAQ: Frequently
asked questions

1. What is the difference between the STUDENTOPOLIS program and competition

The STUDENTOPOLIS program is the framework in which individual competitions are implemented. The competition always has its beginning and end of the announcement for submitting projects and may also have defined restrictions in terms of project focus, finances, etc. In practice, projects can only be submitted at the time when the competition is announced.

2. Is there any limitation within the competition with submission until 9/10/2024?

The basic limitation is given only in the area of finance, when it is possible to apply for a maximum amount of support of CZK 50,000. In terms of activities, it is possible to apply for support for any activity, be it cultural, sports, environmental...

3. Who can apply for finance?

The main researcher must always be a student of VŠB-TUO. However, the competition is structured in such a way that at least one other student or VŠB-TUO employee must be included in the implementation team.

4. Until when can the project be submitted? And when will the next round of the competition be?

The latest date for project submission is 10/9/2024 (until midnight). The next competition is not planned until 2025 (the announcement date is currently unclear).

5. What if I take a classmate to my team and he cannot implement the project?

The change of the solver, i.e. a partner from the implementation team, is an insignificant change and it will be sufficient to announce it as part of the final report. The change of the principal investigator, i.e. the student who submits the project, is already a substantial change and it needs to be approved in accordance with the Principles of the STUDENTOPOLIS programme.

6. When and how will the projects be evaluated?

As part of the first announced competition, all projects must be evaluated within 30 days of the end of accepting projects, i.e. by 9 November 2024 at the latest. The criteria are set again in the Principles of the k+ studentopolis programme, when 1) the overall quality of the project will be evaluated, 2) the importance of the project for students and community life within VŠB-TUO or outside it, 3) the involvement of VŠB-TUO students in the project, 4) the adequacy of the requirements for the allocation of funds and 5) continuity with other projects or activities implemented within the VŠB-TUO. The evaluation will be carried out by the evaluation committee, and each project must be evaluated by at least one VŠB-TUO student.

7. Is there a limit to the number of pages, scope of information provided, etc.?

Projects are submitted within the VŠB-TUO internal system at https://projekty.vsb.cz. The individual fields to be filled in have limitations in terms of the number of characters. If the project submitter needs to provide more detailed information, it is possible to do so in the form of an attachment.

8. Can a student submit more than one project?

There is no limitation in terms of the number of submitted projects.

9. How is the project presented?

The project is submitted exclusively electronically through the VŠB-TUO internal system at https://projekty.vsb.cz. The student accesses it after logging in, which is the same as logging into the VŠB-TUO intranet.

10. Does it matter how much money I ask for?

There is only a maximum limit of 50,000 CZK for one project and further that the sum of personal costs and scholarships must not be more than 50% of the total requested amount. In terms of evaluation, each project is evaluated individually. The adequacy of the requested funds will be assessed in relation to the planned activities. It is definitely recommended to use the option of comments in individual budget items and to indicate here what the funds will be used for.

11. When will I receive the money?

The money is not provided in advance, but the applicant has the opportunity to get it afterwards. Every expenditure must be in accordance with the Methodology for drawing funds from STUDENTOPOLIS, which is available at https://studentopolis.vsb.cz.

12. Can I involve people other than VŠB-TUO students in the project?

The main solver of the project must be a student of VŠB-TUO, and the other solvers must be students or employees of VŠB-TUO. Other persons may be included as a target group, i.e. within the implemented activities.

13. Can I edit the project after submission?

If a project has been submitted and the deadline has not yet passed, it is possible to ask the main contact person to return this project for completion. After the time limit, the system no longer allows subsequent corrections to be made, unless required by the evaluation committee. She can propose to reduce the financial allocation for the project, as well as submit a proposal to modify any activity. In this case, the project would be returned for finishing and it would be up to the main investigator whether he would agree with the modification or not.

14. Who are the evaluators?

The evaluation committee consists of evaluators from among students, VŠB-TUO employees and also an external evaluator from the corporate sphere. All are nominated by the rector.

15. Does it matter if I rank first or maybe tenth?

The placement of the project after the evaluation is decisive mainly because of the set financial allocation. For your project, you can get up to 50,000 CZK of the total amount of 500,000 CZK, which is divided between the projects this year. If the project gets few points, it can happen that the funds will not go to it and it will not be able to be supported.

16. In what language can the project be submitted?

The project can be submitted in Czech or English.
