Project by David Pastor, a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
In his project, Davis prepared a tournament in the computer game DOTA 2 for his colleagues.
DOTA 2 is a computer, strategy and team game. It can be compared to chess, only an individual controls one of the five characters in one of the two teams instead of the entire chessboard, and the human factor together with the added mechanics push the difficulty up to the level of 4D chess. One battle lasts on average from 35 minutes to 45 minutes. The strategic element of the game is the choice and the execution of actions of all players, which are a response to the actions of opponents in time. Under normal conditions, the game is won by the team, not by the individual.
The tournament already took place on November 15, 2024. Instead of the traditional semi-final spider, the organizers used the „each with each“ format in the tournament. The results then determined a spider in which the winning team advanced to the finals while the remaining two teams battled for the last place in the finals. The final was the best of three games. This format was more friendly and fun for non-professional participants as well as the audience.
Of the allocated financial support of CZK 10,000, David used CZK 9,051.
Project by Kateřina Kolaříková, a student at the Faculty of Electical Engineering and Computer Science
The aim of Katka's project was to organize a photo competition where students could submit their photos and express their creativity. It was held in three rounds with different themes: Campus in the Lens, Student Life and Sustainability. Each round produced several winners, who were selected by both public voting and a professional jury. The prize for the winner was a voucher for a purchase at the Alza.cz e-shop. The winning photos were exhibited in June on the university premises, now you can see them on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/studentooo_ostrava/
Financial support 15,000 CZK.
Finances totalling 9,099 CZK were used for prizes for the winners and printing of the photos.
Project by Vladimír Glogar, a student at the Faculty of Economics
Vláďa is a fountain of ideas and a constant in the Studentopolis program. Last year, he prepared the Rozkopni.to project for a cycle of lectures with interesting people from practice, which continues under the banner of EKF, and was one of the main faces of our promotional campaign this year. We are therefore happy that his next project Campus Cinema also succeeded in the evaluation. As part of the project, Vláďa and his co-researchers will arrange a public projection of films for students and the public on the grounds of our university. The benefit of the project is the revitalization of the campus in the afternoon and evening hours, new possibilities for activities for students who are housed in the dormitories and making the university more attractive for its future students.
Financial support CZK 50,000.
You can look forward to screening films in the fall as well, the project continues until December 31, 2025.
Project by David Panoš, a student at the Faculty of Mining and Geology
David lacks a place to relax and socialize outside the classic bars on the university campus. That’s why he decided to write a project, find a space and change it. He would like to create a place for friendly and informal meeting and spending free time, with the offer of renting board games and game consoles (retro games, PlayStation, Xbox) where students can play alone or in groups. The project will also include themed evenings and events that will support getting to know each other and shared experiences. Student-OFF responds to the need to strengthen the community life of students in the dormitories and offers an alternative for those looking for other entertainment options. The project supports the development of the student community and fulfils the university’s mission as a place not only for studying, but also for personal growth and making friends.
Financial support CZK 49,000.
The project continues until December 31, 2025.
Project by Jana Růžička, a student at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology
The goal of Jana's project was to support biodiversity on the VŠB-TUO campus by installing insect hotels with a focus on supporting insect pollinators. Insect hotels were presented and made as part of 3 workshops organized for students, children from the University Kindergarten, and children of employees of the VŠB-TUO spring suburban camp. These hotels already provide refuge for solitary bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. The project also had and still has an educational dimension – passersby can read information via QR codes placed directly on the insect hotels. The aim is also to aesthetically improve the campus and increase environmental awareness. The hotels were built from regional materials with an emphasis on sustainability.
Financial support of CZK 45,300 was used for workshops and the purchase and installation of insect houses.
Project by Martina Sousedíková, a student at the Faculty of Mining and Geology
Martina’s project was focused on sustainability and consisted in the realization of an online platform for donating, selling or exchanging things. The platform https://bazar.vsb.cz/ is only available to members of the university community based on their VŠB-TUO login data. Users can upload a photo of the item on the platform, add a brief description (e.g. condition, purpose, size) and provide contact information for the person offering the item. All transactions will take place in person based on an agreement between users, thus saving on packaging and postage. The university will not bear any legal responsibility for the condition or quality of the subjects. It should contain various subcategories such as textiles, books, electronics and other items.
Financial support of CZK 45,000 was used for services related to platform development.
Project by David Kolařík, a student at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology
David is a big disc golf fan and player. He would like to introduce his hobby to the students and employees of VŠB–TUO in the form of the fun and practical event right on campus. Disc golf is a sport that combines precision and movement in nature and its rules are similar to classic golf. During the academy, participants will learn the basics of throwing technique, the rules of the game and tips to improve performance. This introductory part will be followed by an open mini tournament where everyone can play against their friends. The capacity of the mini tournament is not limited and anyone who wants to try disc golf can participate.
Financial support CZK 42,681.
The project was cancelled due to David´s ending his studies.
Project by Pavlína Samiecová, a student at the Faculty of Economics
Pavlína loves music and at the same time likes to organize something. She put her skills together and prepared a project for the festival of orchestras. She invited The Orchestra of ZUŠ Hranice. The university was represented by the small flexible Brass Beat Band orchestra, which was also supported by the Studentopolis program last year, and the VŠB-TUO Orchestra. The orchestras made the arrival at the canteen more pleasant for employees and students, playing outside in front of the building during lunchtime, and for students after lunch in front of the dormitories. The festival ended with an evening concert in the large hall of the university auditorium. Songs close to the target audience were played – rock, pop, film music and music from musicals.
The players of Hranice Music School are high school students, so Pavlína also prepared an accompanying program for them - a tour of the laboratories and a visit to the Planetarium. We hope that some players from the Hranice Music School Orchestra will come to study at our university after graduation.
The allocated funds of CZK 42,000 were used up in full.
Project by Kateřina Kolaříková, a student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
In this project, Katka organized an event for students and employees of the university in cooking goulash, a popular dish in Central Europe. The event was combined with a competition, where individual teams cooked different types of goulash and tried to win the title of the best goulash team. The goulashes were evaluated by an expert jury, which included Vice-Rector Igor Ivan, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Robert Čep and Director of Dormitories and Canteens Tomáš Otipka. The overall evaluation also considered the opinion of the event visitors. In addition to cooking, the event was supplemented by an accompanying program, including music and, most importantly, a good mood, which was also contributed by the sunny weather.
Photos from the event.
Of the total allocated amount of CZK 41,000, approximately CZK 32,500 was spent, mainly on ingredients needed for cooking.
Project by Kateřina Lipinová, a student at the Faculty of Economics
Katka likes dancing, which she misses at the university. She was therefore inspired by the International Dance Day, which fall on April 29, and on this day, she prepared a day of dance workshops for students, employees and the public. Individual lessons took place in the afternoon in blocks of one hour, simultaneously in two gymnasiums. Thanks to the project, the possibilities of leisure activities within the university expanded. This project tried to include the widest possible target group, which could be all enthusiasts or those interested in dance. As part of the workshops, you could try dance aerobics, Vogue, Contemporary, Flamenco, Broadway Jazz, Latin (Cha-Cha), Dancehall or Hip Hop Choreo. All participants of the event were excited and are looking forward to its continuation.
The financial support of CZK 23,000 was used mainly to pay for lecturers and light refreshments in the form of energy bars and drinks for event participants.
Project by Daniel Hartman, a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has a lot of interesting projects that students don't know about. Therefore, Daniel's project supported the promotion of these activities. The goal was to motivate students to get involved in projects and associations that offer them practical experience, new contacts and opportunities for trips abroad or participation in international competitions. The target group was our students who want to develop their knowledge beyond their study obligations. The project included live demonstrations, such as the mobile robot of the RoverOva team or the competition drone of the Department of Robotics, lectures, discussions and demonstrations of student projects.
Of the amount of CZK 20,000, less than CZK 11,000 was spent.
Project by Ondřej Matoušek, a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Ondra’s project consisted of two key activities.
The first was the organization of an international football tournament on the VŠB-TUO campus. The tournament hosted 7 international teams, and although the weather was not very kind to them, the tournament took place, and all the players enjoyed it. With his project, Ondra tried to promote a healthy lifestyle among students, provide them with the opportunity to take a break from normal university duties, and support their physical and mental well-being.
The second activity, called „Afternoon of board games” was aimed at organizing a relaxing afternoon with outdoor board games for all VŠB-TUO students at the Minigolf with an evening bonfire and roasting sausages. Participants in the event could try various outdoor board games such as Mölkky, Pétanque, small and large Jenga, or Spikeball, listen to recorded music, and refresh themselves with grilled sausage or cheese.
The financial support for both events was CZK 19,983 and was used for prizes for participants in the football tournament, the purchase of outdoor games and refreshments.
Project by Kateřina Kolaříková, a student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Katka came up with the idea of organizing such a party that would not disturb anyone in the vicinity. At this party, the music was not played from the speakers, but each of the participants had headphones on their heads, so they could enjoy the music among everyone, but at the same time in private. Each participant could choose music according to their own taste and, thanks to the high-quality sound, fully concentrate on listening without distractions from the surroundings. At the same time, the quiet environment eliminated excessively loud speech from others, which allowed participants not only to dance and enjoy the music, but also to chat, get to know each other and strengthen relationships with classmates in a pleasant atmosphere. The event thus represented a friendly alternative to the hectic club environment.
Of the financial support of 19,000 CZK, less than 18,000 CZK was used for services related to the rental of headphones and sound and lighting equipment.
Project by Daniel Šrom, a student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Daniel’s project was a continuation of Palína’s project and last year’s project to create a small flexible Brass Beat Band orchestra. In this small orchestra, both Czech and foreign students of VŠB-TUO and other students of the Poruba district are involved. The composition of the orchestra is flexible, depending on which players have time on a given date. The repertoire is simple – pop music or music suitable for street art.
You could hear the Brass Beat Band at the St. Nicholas event for employees' children, at Spring full of Wigs and Campus full of breaths.
Of the financial support of 4,800 CZK, approximately 3,800 CZK was used.
