SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals

VSB-TUO plays a key role in the development of society, not only by providing higher education and advancing scientific knowledge but also by contributing to the development of industrial partners, public institutions, and the nonprofit sector—particularly in the region where it operates. This impact extends beyond Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian Region to include other campuses where the University operates. In particular, the University‘s collaboration
with municipal and regional authorities, stakeholders, associations, and other organisations is crucial for achieving their shared sustainable development goals.

VSB-TUO has long supported entrepreneurship and innovation in the Region, creating job opportunities for its graduates, many of whom secure positions with higher added value. This contributes to the prosperity of the city and enhances its attractiveness to investors. Beyond these activities, the University works on strengthening its scientific capacities by significantly expanding its international research teams.

17.2 Relationships to support the goals

17.2.1. Relationships with regional NGOs and government for SDG policy

VSB - Technical University of Ostrava actively supports and informs government policies related to sustainable development through multiple projects across local, regional, and international levels.

The REFRESH project serves as VSB - Technical University of Ostrava’s 'flagship' initiative, supporting the SMARAGD vision to transform the Moravian-Silesian Region into a sustainable, innovative hub, or SMARt And Green District. As a significant investment in research excellence, REFRESH aims to create a unique European infrastructure dedicated to sustainable energy, industrial digitalisation, automated transport, environmental technologies, and smart materials. By linking academic and industrial partners, this project enables VSB-TUO to directly contribute to regional SDG policy development, particularly in sustainable industry and environmental technologies, and to support government efforts in driving economic and environmental resilience.

17.2.2. Cross sectoral dialogue about SDGs

VSB - Techniacl University of Ostrava is engaged in initiating and participating in cross-sectoral dialogue about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This engagement includes organising and attending conferences, workshops, and forums that bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, industry leaders, researchers, and students. These events serve as platforms for collaboration, the exchange of ideas, and the development of innovative solutions that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.

An example of our University's cross-sectoral engagement is the international conference From Smart City to Smart Factory for Sustainable Future (SCFF), organised by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. This conference brings together experts from various fields to explore how innovative technologies can drive sustainability in urban and industrial settings. It promotes collaboration by sharing ideas, solutions, and frameworks that address challenges like resource efficiency, urbanisation, and sustainable industrial development. Through this initiative, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering plays a key role in fostering dialogue and advancing sustainability solutions across sectors.
