Hydrogen safety at Fraunhofer ICTPresentation abstract: Fraunhofer ICT has many years of experience in technical safety of hydrogen starting in the 80ies investigating huge H2-air clouds during explosion, deflagration and detonation for industrial safety. In the 90ies tests of cryo-tanks for vehicles under worst case conditions, such as crash, fire and shooting followed. Since 2000 system integration for vehicles including hydrogen derivates and the use of digital twins and CFD simulations of dispersion (indoor & outdoor), jets and combustion are in the focus. The experimental equipment comprises a semi-open safety box and open-air testing range for experiments with possible burst failure or explosion risk. Fraunhofer is furthermore developing fire and flame protection techniques applicable to hydrogen storage environments. Selected use cases will be presented. |
