Writing for Publication II

Description

This course is the second part of a full (2-semester) course that supports students in writing for publication in English.
The main outcome of this course is a manuscript students submit for publication in an academic journal.
This course continues in teaching writing and publishing as a process through strategies to support effective writing. It focuses on writing the subsections of Methods, Results and Discussion.
Students enlarge their corpus of articles and analyse them for rhetorical moves, hedging and other strategies typical for the subsections of Methods, Results and Discussion.
The course also pays attention to the visual aspects of the text, i.e., figures and tables. Besides learning to outline, develop, and revise their texts, and give and receive peer feedback, students write a full research article.
The goals for the course are to (1) continue to develop and engage in an effective professional writing process that includes effective time management, goal setting, and regular writing time; (2) develop the competences of giving and receiving feedback; (3) learn to communicate with the journal gatekeepers (editors and reviewers); (4) draft and revise several subsections of a research journal article (Methods, Results, and Discussion); and finally (5) produce a high-quality manuscript ready for publication.

Who is the course addressed to?
