The FIP Academy webinar will present research on programmable materials and supportless 3D printing
The world of programmable materials and metal additive technology will be introduced at the first FIP Academy's first online webinar of this calendar year, which will take place on 2 February at 2 pm. Christof Hübner from the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT (Fraunhofer ICT) in Pfinztal, Germany, and Jiří Hajnyš from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO), Czech Republic, will talk about their research topics.

Chemical engineer Christof Hübner has more than 30 years of experience in applied research in the Fraunhofer Society, mainly in the area of polymeric materials. In recent years, he has focused in particular on functional polymer composites. Since 2019, he has been a senior scientist in the Department of Polymer Engineering at the Fraunhofer ICT and in the same year he joined the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Programmable Materials CPM, where he coordinates the thematic area “Manufacturing and Upscaling”. In his talk entitled Welcome to the world of programmable materials, he will give some insight into the work of this cluster.

Jiří Hajnyš, assistant professor at the Department of Machining, Assembly and Engineering Metrology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, will be looking for an answer to the question: Is it possible to print metal parts with support-free? The head of the Protolab 3D printing Centre is intensively involved in research on 3D metal printing, namely SLM technology, called Selective Laser Melting in English. Among other things, he focuses his scientific interest on supportless printing. “In my contribution I will present partial results achieved at VSB-TUO and ongoing research in this area,” Hajnyš invites to the online seminar.

Those interested can register for the webinar, which will be held in English, here. The FIP Academy forms a platform for sharing scientific knowledge and experience among scientists from the institutions involved in the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Applied Artificial Intelligence for Materials & Manufacturing at VSB - Technical University of Ostrava (FIP-AI@VSB-TUO). The platform, which is unique in the Czech Republic, was established in June 2021. It connects researchers from VSB-TUO, the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT, which offers expertise in materials research and energy systems, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU in the area of production and processing technologies.
