A world expert on nuclear safety will open the FMT Doctoral Day
On 15 June, Dr. Kunio Hasegawa, a world expert in nuclear safety, will speak about the characterization and assessment of material defects in the nuclear industry. The lecture, organized by the PhD Academy and FMT, is aimed at students and researchers across the University.

Dr. Kunio Hasegawa has worked for more than 30 years at Hitachi Ltd. in the field of structural strength. During his tenure, he was also a visiting professor at Yokohama National University and Kanazawa University. After leaving Hitachi, he worked for 8 years at the Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization and is currently a consultant to the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.

He has been the chairman of the technical committee of the Codes & Standards Division of Pressure Vessel & Piping of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) for four years and was deputy editor-in-chief of the ASME Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology. Dr. Hasegawa has served for over 25 years on several committees as a member of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section X. He has been elected a Fellow of ASME and is the recipient of many ASME awards. He also holds the honorary title of Doctor honoris causa of the Technical University of Ostrava.

This world-renowned nuclear safety expert will open the FMT Doctoral Students' Day with his talk. Part I Accidents and New Technologies, Part II Fracture Mechanics and Flaw Evaluation Rules.

The lecture will take place on June 15, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. in Auditorium B2.
