We offer academic staff the opportunity to organise a workshop to encourage greater application of academic writing in different courses. We will advise you on how to set assignments for term papers, including SLOs (student learning outcomes), how to give feedback and how to assess papers effectively (formative vs. summative feedback).
We will also introduce you to the upcoming semester-long course for 3rd year undergraduate students that we are preparing for the 2024/2025 winter semester. This is a blended-learning course, i.e. a combination of studying materials in the LMS Moodle and direct teaching. The course is designed by experts from the Central Library and the Writing Support Centre.
Not only in cooperation with the Central Library we offer workshops on teaching:
- searching for resources and working with databases
- evaluation of resources and literature
- critical reading
- argumentation
- citation, including the use of citation managers
- paraphrasing
- structuring academic texts
- revising academic texts
- using modern tools, including artificial intelligence
We also cooperate with colleagues from abroad. For example, in September 2022 and September 2023 we offered a three-day Writing to Learn workshop led by Prof. Dana L. Driscoll from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
For supervisors of doctoral students, the WSC hosts what is called a Professional Development Day. These are workshops on how to support students in the areas of:
- setting a publishing strategy
- choosing appropriate journals
- structuring (professional) texts
- revising (professional) texts
- communicating with editors and reviewers of peer-reviewed journals
- use of modern tools in professional writing, including artificial intelligence
- feedback provision
You will be informed about the workshops on the WSC website (Events), by email and in the upcoming events (Innet).
