Reasons, Rationales, and Approaches for Critically Using GenAI in the Teaching of Disciplinary Writing

 21. 10. 2024, 10:00 - 12:00
 PhD Akademie UK 220

The workshop, facilitated by Dr. Pavel Zemliansky from OsloMet University in Norway, will offer practical strategies for integrating AI-based activities into assignment design, and effective prompt engineering.

The workshop will invite participants to go beyond the usual and typically unfounded panic about AI “killing student writing” we often see in media. We will examine some recent research on AI in writing and consider ways to critically think about and use generative AI in the teaching and learning of disciplinary writing. Participants will be offered practical strategies for integrating AI-based activities into assignment design, effective prompt engineering for such assignments, and other related topics. Particular emphasis will be given to developing approaches to critical assessment of AI´s capabilities and shortcomings.

The workshop will be of interest to all staff who supervise final theses and/or are interested in ways how to incorporate AI into their disciplinary courses to support disciplinary/professional writing.
