GenAI in Research

The PhD Academy are celebrating the 5-year anniversary of its existence. To celebrate, join us for the webinar by Dr. Sam Illingworth - author of SlowAI.

Workshop for PhD students, researchers, and academic staff.

Title: GenAI in Research
Date: October 8, 2026
Time: 10.30 - 12.00 CEST
Lecturer: Sam Illingworth, PhD

Generative AI is now part of everyday research practice, and most of the guidance available to PhD candidates and researchers is either too vague to act on or too restrictive to be realistic. This webinar takes a practical and critical look at where these tools genuinely help across the research lifecycle, from reading and developing ideas through to analysis, writing and peer review, and where they quietly undermine the quality and integrity of our work. Rather than a fixed set of rules, the session offers a way of thinking about generative AI that participants can apply to their own discipline and their own projects. It is discussion led and shaped by the questions people bring, with time throughout for Q&A, so participants are encouraged to come with examples from their own work.
