Mental Health in Academia 2

Description

The Mental Health in Academia 2 course provides a comprehensive framework for fostering a psychologically safe and supportive work environment. Participants will learn to "know their people" by identifying behavioral "data points" that signal when a colleague may be experiencing psychological distress. By promoting inclusion and normalizing the discussion of challenges, learners will help build a culture where innovation thrives and individuals feel safe to voice their opinions without fear of backlash.
The curriculum emphasizes practical skills in active listening and structured supportive dialogue, ensuring participants can offer compassionate help while effectively utilizing the professional help pipeline. Crucially, the course addresses sustainable helping, teaching participants to protect their own well-being through boundary setting, grounding techniques, and managing personal worry. By clearly defining their role and recognizing personal limits, participants will be empowered to support others while rigorously maintaining their own self-care within the academic setting.
