VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO) has once again been featured in the international rankings by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), published this May. Despite the inclusion of 435 more universities compared to the previous year, our University remains in the top 2,000. According to the rankings, VSB-TUO is among the top 8.6 percent of universities worldwide.

The organisers of the ranking evaluated a total of 20,966 universities. VSB-TUO was ranked 1,802nd overall, improving by two positions compared to the previous year. Only 11 Czech universities appeared in the ranking, the same number as in 2023. VSB-TUO has maintained the 10th position in the national comparison for three consecutive years and holds a leading position among Czech universities in the "Alumni Employment" category (ranked 792nd globally), where only Charles University is also listed (ranked 1298th globally).

CWUR is a consulting organisation headquartered in the United Arab Emirates that has been producing international university rankings since 2012. Initially launched in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to rank the world's top 100 universities, CWUR expanded its list to include 2,000 universities in 2019. Unlike other rankings, CWUR primarily relies on available data from the Clarivate Analytics database, without conducting surveys or relying on university data submissions.

CWUR evaluates universities based on a methodology comprising seven indicators across four areas: quality of education (25%) - alumni who have received major academic awards; employability (25%) - graduates holding senior positions in the world's largest public companies; quality of faculty (10%) - staff who have received prestigious academic awards; and research performance (40%) – research output, high-quality publications, influence, and citations.

The ranking is dominated by American universities, with eight in the top ten. With a total of 329 universities, the USA is also the most represented country in the ranking. Harvard, Stanford and MIT are among the most cited universities globally.
