The aim of the project is to build on the successful previous Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) projects, which aimed to implement a European HPC infrastructure, and continue to develop cooperation in the field of supercomputing; to strengthen the competitiveness of European science, research, and industry. The PRACE 6th Implementation Phase Project is the sixth in a series of PRACE pan-European supercomputing infrastructure projects. PRACE allows scientists from Europe to apply through grant competitions for access to supercomputers operated in different member countries across Europe. As part of the project, IT4Innovations also runs the PRACE Training Center under which it organises approximately six professional training sessions per year. It also enables students from Europe to participate in summer internships at European supercomputing centres each year. This opportunity is used by 50 students a year who work with their mentors on research projects. The project also develops software codes aimed at new supercomputer architectures and their use in new research areas.
