Card in mobile device

Mobile devices with the Android operating system and the VSB-TUO Card application can be used instead of physical cards at card readers (placed in the canteen, buffets or at the doors). You do not need to have the application running for identification at readers - you just need to have the phone unlocked (or just the display lit - depending on the application settings - Other - Settings - Unlock check during card emulation).

Requirements

To use the application, you need to have:

  • a mobile device running Android 10 or higher,
  • NFC turned on,
  • a screen lock configured (PIN, biometrics),
  • a valid physical VSB-TUO card,
  • an active relationship with the university.

If the physical card is blocked, it will also stop working in the mobile device.

The application is not a substitute for the ODISka card and cannot be used in vehicles of carriers participating in the ODIS/IDZK system (e.g. when boarding or during ticket inspection).

Limitations

The application is not supported by card readers at the following locations:

  • gates 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the main Poruba campus (map),
  • study offices,
  • dormitory reception.

iPhone

We would like to have such an application, but Apple does everything to make such a thing as impossible as possible and sets conditions for developers that are difficult to meet or not even worth trying.
For identification with readers, Apple has created its own solution - via Apple Wallet - where it holds everything firmly in its hands and you need to have certified HW (therefore, it is also quite expensive, we could throw away all existing readers). Also, issuing a virtual card for Apple Wallet is not a cheap matter (issuance fees + regular payments), etc. The university currently does not plan to invest millions in this solution.
However, last year, at the request of the EU, Apple was forced to at least partially open NFC. The requirements for granting access to NFC and the ability to use it for an application are difficult to meet. Nevertheless, we are trying. Unfortunately, this is the price for a "closed" platform, which itself knows best what and how users should use it, and does not like to let developers into things that do not bring it proper profit.
