Erasmus+ Traineeship

Traineeship is one of the possibilities how to travel abroad during your university studies and gain valuable knowledge and experience. The receiving institution can be a university or any public or private organization active in the labour market or in education, training and youth work.

Basic Conditions

Traineeship:

  • you must be enrolled in an accredited Bachelor (Bc.), Master (Ing.) or Doctoral (Ph.D.). study programme at VSB-TUO
  • the traineeship can last from 2 up to 12 months
  • you can participate repeatedly, but your mobility period at a relevant study programme (whether Bc., Ing. or Ph.D.) may not exceed 12 months
  • schedule your mobility to start and end on weekdays
  • you can complete an traineeship in any European Union Member State except for the Czech Republic
  • the traineeship must not take place in EU institutions or organizations managing EU programmes
  • it is possible to join the programme in the first year of your studies at VSB-TUO
  • the list of eligible organizations is given here
  • it is strongly recommended to start planning and preparing the traineeship in advance
Step 1:
Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure

In order to do an traineeship abroad, you first have to go through a selection procedure done by the faculty coordinator. Therefore, your first step should be to visit your faculty coordinator well in advance! At your faculty, the selection process can take place only twice a year! So, don't wait for anything.

Step 2:
Find your Institution

You have to find the institution where you're going to do your traineeship by yourself. Only you know best what you are interested in, in what field you would like to improve and develop your knowledge.

For example, you can get help from the Erasmusintern job placement website or you can see  Direct offers from Companies, where we continuously publish offers that are sent directly to our university.

The faculty coordinator can also provide valuable information. Or perhaps get some inspiration from your colleagues’ experience of not only from VSB-TUO but also from the whole Czech Republic. See Erasmus student's reports database.

Step 3:
Documents, Scholarship
  1. First, you need to sign a contract with a receiving institution – Learning Agreement for Traineeships. Fill in the form (whether in cooperation with your faculty coordinator or with a foreign institution) and leave nothing blank. Finally, get all the necessary signatures – the scan version is sufficient. However, start early (e.g. 3 months before the internship starts), it is a crucial document and to obtain the necessary signatures can sometimes take a long time.
  2. Get insurance for the whole duration of your stay. It must include health insurance (medical expenses), liability insurance and accident insurance.

  3. A Grand Agreement is an agreement that guarantees you a scholarship if certain conditions are met.

Scholarship
Your account must be in the Czech Republic, we don't send scholarships to foreign accounts.

The scholarship is paid in euros only, so we recommend opening a euro account. If your current account is in Czech crowns (CZK), check if the bank also accepts euro deposits on it.

You can find monthly grant sums for individual countries here, you can check the exact calculation of the scholarship for your specific duration in the calculator.

The grant will be paid to you in no more than two instalments. You'll receive the first one before you leave.

Step 4:
Submit Documents, Language Test

You need to send the following documents to the relevant employee of the University International Office (email barbora.stivarova@vsb.cz):

  1. Learning Agreement for Traineeships - confirmed by all required parties
  2. Letter of Acceptance (LoA) - defines the period of admission to the foreign university - beginning and end specifies the period of studies at the foreign university. This information is part of the Grand Agreement.
  3. Insurance (health, accident, liability)
  4. Fill in OLS language test: After receiving the documents, we'll send you a link to the OLS test. This is a language test in the language in which you will communicate in the workplace. The result will not affect your traineeships, but it is entered in the Participant Agreement. Completing the test takes about 45 min. To find out how to apply for the EU Academy and complete the OLS language assessment, click HERE.

When you're done, get back to your e-mail and we'll schedule a contract signing date.

Signature should take place no later than 2-3 weeks before departure for the traineeship.

Step 5:
Enjoy it (shorten/extend your stay)

If you want to extend (or shorten) your traineeship, you need to ask at the University International Office, your faculty coordinator and the study department a month before the contract expires. We'll let you know immediately if the request can be granted.

If you want to extend the traineeship, you will need to supply these documents:
1.   The confirmed middle part of the Learning Agreement for Traineeships (Changes to the Traineeship Programme at the Receiving Organisation/Enterprise)
2.   Insurance (health, accident, liability)

An amendment to the Participation Agreement, which we will prepare and will send it to you for a signature.

If you want to shorten the traineeship, you have to expect to pay back a part of the scholarship.

Step 6:
Before you Leave, Final Documents

On the last day of your traineeship, let the responsible person at the receiving institution confirm the final part of the Learning Agreement (AFTER THE MOBILITY – Traineeship Certificate). You need to deliver this document (hard copy with original signatures) to the relevant employee at the University International Office within 14 days of the last day of your internship.

At the end of the internship

  1. in cooperation with the faculty coordinator, you will also prepare a document on the Results of the Traineeship
  2. fill in 2 questionnaires – the EU Survey  and the Erasmus student's report for your colleagues. For both questionnaires, you will receive login information by email.
