Summary
The content of the subject is the knowledge and overview of methods to enhance the properties of the grounds (soil, weathered and rocky horns). In detail there are on display methods of temporary and permanent treatment of grounds, their principles and the circumstances of their use in praxis. Attention is paid to the following methods of treatment: drainage, consolidation, consolidation, mixing, injection, reinforcement, anchoring and freezing. Each method is documented by a number of practical applications implemented on geotechnical structures of surface, subsurface and underground structures.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Objective of the course in terms of learning outcomes and competences is to provide students with knowledge of rock and soil treatment methods, the most common technologies and practical examples of their application on real geotechnical structures and structures. The student acquires knowledge that provide him with a fundament in the issues that are necessary for his independent practical work, developing his own professional knowledge and further their deepening by self-study of professional literature.
Course Contents
Lectures
Introduction, Principles of improvement methods, classifying schemes, Compaction, Consolidation, Dewatering, Grouting, jet grouting, Ground sealing, Mechanical mixing and replacement, Soil nailing and rock anchoring, Soil reinforcement, Lime treatement of soil, Ground freezing.
Practical Sessions
The undergraduate works out the recherche project on a topic of the assigned ground improvement method. The last week of term he reports it at an open session .
