Ostrava is Czechia’s third largest city, a centre of industry and a university town in which students comprise approximately 14% of the population. It is a vibrant student city full of cultural and entertainment options. Ostrava is in an excellent location with superb public transport links meaning you can walk out of your door and travel to five European capitals within 4 hours for less than €20. Ostrava is also home to the Colours of Ostrava and Beats for Love music festivals, which host artists from around the world every summer.

You can find six theatres, innumerable clubs; every year the international music festivals Beats for Love, Colours of Ostrava and Majáles happen in Ostrava. You can escape from the bustle of the city by visiting the Ostrava Zoo.

Ostrava is the transport hub of the region

Ostrava is the transport hub of the region - it offers good connections by train, by car or by bus. Close to the city is the Leoš Janáček Airport, and students can use public transport, which is in operation at night (and you can pay with your charge card or by your ODIS card).

Dolní Vítkovice is a unique complex near the centre of the city of Ostrava. Previously, coal was mined here, and crude iron was produced. Today, this industrial complex is used for educational, cultural and social events.
