If you encounter inappropriate behaviour or discrimination in the course of your studies or work at the University and you do not know how to resolve the unpleasant situation, you can contact the University's Ombudsperson.
How can he/she help you?
- if you cannot resolve the situation on your own, you can turn to the ombudsperson,
- to help look at the problem objectively and independently,
- to help resolve conflicts and problems at the university more effectively and to mediate communication between university management, lecturers, and students or staff and their supervisors,
- to intervene against inaction and to try to settle conflict situations between staff and employees, between male and female staff and students, and between students and students among themselves,
- may raise concerns about illegal or antidemocratic behaviour by lecturers and other university authorities,
- may make suggestions to the university management for possible improvements and outcomes that contribute to the good functioning of the university,
- may initiate changes to internal regulations, documents, and processes based on its findings.
What is the role of the Ombudsperson?
- Advisor – provides advice on inappropriate behaviour, discrimination, and other negative phenomena; if he/she cannot solve the problem, he/she will direct you to the competent person or university body.
- Mediator – helps to find a solution in a given situation and coordinates communication between the two parties to the
- Preventer – identifies potential problematic behaviour and suggests measures suitable for its elimination.
