In the Ethical Code, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO), as a bearer of European culture and education, proclaims the moral values resulting from the European cultural environment, and thus strives for a high standard of ethical conduct beyond the mandatory legal norms. At the same time, it realizes that, together with other European universities, it is participating in the preservation of humanism, whose principles it wants to project into all areas of its activities.

Similarly to other universities and organizations which place the focus on the preservation of moral values, VSB-TUO also seeks to ensure that its employees and students accept the basic moral challenges presented in this Code, thus expressing their sense of togetherness with respect to the ethical principles of their university.

Conscious of the fact that moral principles are not legally enforceable, VSB-TUO expresses the will to cross the boundaries of what is “just necessary” on the way to the greater good of all.

The Ethical Code together with the Ethical Framework of Research is binding for all students and employees as well as for persons cooperating with VSB-TUO on the basis of non-employment agreements, agreements on cooperation between emeritus staff, copyright contracts and other contracts concluded between VSB-TUO and natural persons.

The Ethics Commission of VSB-TUO is appointed to assess suggestions related to the observance of moral values summarized in the Ethical Code of VSB-TUO, and to issue opinions, in particular, on project proposals, student thesis proposals, and research and development publications if such an opinion is required by the publisher, the provider or the nature of the project or the nature of the student thesis according to Art. 5 of the Rules of Procedure of the Ethics Committee of VSB-TUO. The proceedings of the Ethics Commission are governed by the Rules of Procedure of the Ethics Commission of VSB – Technical University Ostrava.
