Election of the candidate for Rector April 15, 2025

Information regarding the election of a candidate for the office of Rector according to the resolution of the Academic Senate of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.

The Academic Senate of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (hereinafter AS VSB-TUO) at its meeting on January 28 announced the election of a candidate for the office of Rector of VSB-TUO for the term of office from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2029.

The election schedule sets out the following procedure for electing a candidate for the office of Rector:

  1. Announcement of elections for the position of Rector took place on January 28, 2025.
  2. Candidate proposals must be delivered to the Chair of AS VSB-TUO, Assoc. Prof. Mgr. Petr Kovář, Ph.D. A copy of all documents must also be sent electronically to the Chair, both Vice-Chairs, and the Secretary of AS VSB-TUO by 4:00 p.m. on March 25, 2025. A nomination by a group of 50 members of the academic community must include the name, handwritten signature, and a unique identifier (login) of the academic employee or student. The attached template (docx, PDF) can be used. The submitted materials will be verified to ensure they meet all required criteria.
  3. Submission of CVs and election programs in PDF format, each with a total length of up to two pages, must be made by April 1, 2025 to the Chair of AS VSB-TUO, Assoc. Prof. Mgr. Petr Kovář, Ph.D. The submitted documents will be verified whether they meet all necessary requirements. Subsequently, the election materials of the nominated candidates will be published by April 5, 2025 on the AS VSB-TUO website. The order of the nominated candidates will be determined alphabetically by surname.
  4. Assembly of the Academic Community with the presentation of the nominated candidates will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. The assembly—a public presentation of the nominated candidates for Rector and a discussion with members of the academic community—will be held in the University Auditorium UA1 starting at 1:00 p.m. The estimated end time is around 3:30 p.m. The assembly will be moderated by the Chair of AS VSB-TUO, Assoc. Prof. Mgr. Petr Kovář, Ph.D.
  5. The election of the candidate for the office of Rector will take place on April 15, 2025. If the election is successful, the result and the election report will be submitted by the Chair of AS VSB-TUO to the Minister of Education. The new Rector will take office on September 1, 2025. The ceremonial inauguration is tentatively planned between September 8 and 12, 2025.

Questions for candidates for rector who will present themselves at the meeting of the academic community of VSB-TUO

First, each of the candidates will briefly introduce themselves. The order of the candidates will be determined by lot. This will be followed by answers to questions from members of the academic community. The meeting will not be broadcast online.

Method of asking questions of the candidates:

  • Members of the academic community may ask questions by emailing the Chair of the Academic Senate of the University of Economics and Business Administration at by 12:00 noon on Monday, 7 April 2025. Any wish to ask a question anonymously will be respected.
  • Questions will not be communicated to candidates in advance.
  • The Board of the Academic Senate of VSB-TUO will determine the order of questions so that topics are not repeated.

For each question it is necessary to state:

  • Whether you wish the name of the questioner and the faculty to be disclosed, or whether the question is to be submitted anonymously.
  • To whom the question is addressed, whether to all candidates or only some. If not specified, the question will be asked of all candidates.
  • For joint questions, the order of candidate responses will alternate, with the next candidate answering the next question.
  • Once the questions sent in advance have been exhausted, and if the time allotted for the meeting has not expired, there will also be an opportunity to ask questions in a live discussion.
