Summary
Lectures and seminars are focused on fundamental questions of road designing, with emphasis on the design and construction of roads and pavement design, including material properties and building technology. Exercises are taught in a computer room using specialized software.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The aim is to gain knowledge of designing and building roads. Attention will be focused especially on the design of the road route according to the required parameters and ways of designing the road pavements, including the technological procedures and the realization.
Course Contents
1. Road transport and transport equipment, types and characteristics of vehicles, basics of vehicle movement. Braking, braking distance, vehicle effects on the road. Motion and stability of the vehicle in a straight line and in an arc. Views on roads and motorways. Categorization of roads and motorways, design parameters.
2. Principles for road and motorway design. Level of service, LOS grade. Draft corresponding road category in relation to road traffic load.
3. Directional design elements of road communications. Linear and directional arcs, design elements of clotoid and its use in road and motorway design.
4. Height design elements routes of roads and highways. Maximum and minimum slope gradients and rounding of height polygonal fractures. Planning and design of roads. Various road route design.
5. Arrangement of roads and motorways in cross-section. Widths and inclinations of lanes, sidewalks and adjacent lanes. Extension of lanes. Road overturn inclination, resulting slope. Securing of the passage profile.
6. Harmonization of the direction and elevation design of road route. Spatial effect of road routes, road aesthetics and integration of the road road to the countryside. Vegetation treatments as a safety and aesthetic element of road communications.
7. Design and construction of the road ground body, shape and slope of excavations and embankments. Vegetation treatment of the slopes of the ground body. Calculation of cubatures of earthworks, traffic moment and distribution distances. Multi-criteria evaluation of road route proposals, selection of the most suitable variant.
8. Drainage of road pavement and body, road and motorway objects. Design and construction elements of culverts.
9. Safety devices and other equipment for roads and motorways. Guiding and catching safety devices, traffic signs and transport devices.
10. Road building materials, structure and composition roads
11. Building compounds and structural layers
12. Design of road pavements construction, basic design data, design methods - sorting, development in the Czech Republic and in the world
13. Road pavements disorders and diagnostics
14. Maintenance and repair technology, recycling in road construction
