Summary |
---|
Investigation methods in geotechnical engineering are a complex subject where theoretical knowledge of the rock environment and building structures (their properties and behaviour) is used. The basic aim is to introduce students to the application of various exploration methods in solving practical problems. An essential part of the solution is the creation of a conceptual 3D model of the rock environment at the time of project preparation of construction or any intervention in the rock environment and its gradual refinement in the form of an observational model as the design and implementation work on the project progresses. The emphasis is on understanding the interaction between the rock environment and the building structure. Students will learn how to prepare a investigation project, conduct each stage of the investigation and plan indirect and direct investigation techniques in an efficient manner to obtain the necessary characteristics of the rock environment applicable to the design and construction process. All this within the framework of the applicable legislation and using standard procedures valid in the Czech Republic. |
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit |
---|
1) To teach students to design and conduct exploration of the rock environment for various purposes
2) To practically teach students to implement investigation techniques of indirect and direct exploration using the instrumentation available at VŠB-TUO
3) To learn how to economically evaluate the costs of investigation and the results obtained
