The subject represents one of bases of study on FAST VSB-TUO. Students obtain basic information focused on properties of building materials, their composition, structure and physical-mechanical properties. Next part represents binders and silicate construction materials, especially concrete technology and ceramic.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit |
---|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic properties of building materials, their composition, structure and also with their physico-mechanical properties. At the same time, they get to know with building material binders and the foundations of the most common building materials such as concrete or ceramics. |
Course Contents |
---|
Introduction to chemistry (elements, substences, bonding, pH,...) phase and phase transformations, chemistry of water, history of binders, lime, gypsum and gypsum binders, hydraulic lime, portland cement, special cements, alkali activated materials. Introduction to concrete technology, mineral and chemical admixtures, compounds of concrete, design of concrete, shrinkage of concrete, durability of concrete, light-weight concrete.
