Summary
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
In the field of technical building investigations, students will learn the theoretical principles and practical implementation of the most used diagnostic methods, both destructive and non-destructive.
Course Contents
1. Introduction to the issues, investigations of buildings and territories.
2. Technical building investigation - principles and methodology of implementation.
3. Typical defects and damages of building materials and structures - causes of origin and manifestations.
4. Degradation of building structures - physical, chemical and biological.
5. Preliminary survey - inspection and meassurements of structures, qualitative evaluation of critical points.
6. Diagnostic measurements in situ vs. laboratory measurements, sampling.
7. Detailed survey of critical points - measurement of cracks and deformations.
8. Detailed survey of critical points - moisture assessment of structures.
9. Detailed survey - evaluation of physical, mechanical and durability parameters of materials.
10. Diagnostics of concrete and reinforced concrete structures, examples from practice.
11. Diagnosis of masonry structures, examples from practice.
12. Diagnostics of timber structures, examples from practice.
13. Diagnostics of steel structures, practical examples.
