Summary
The course is focused on risk management in the workplace. The ability to assess risks at work and to propose effective measures to deal with risks is one of the key competencies of OSH professionals. Students will get acquainted with common workplace hazards (risks), with procedures, methods/techniques and tools for their assessment and with fundamental prevention of occupational accidents and diseases for individual hazards (risks). As part of the semester project, students will have the opportunity to work on case studies from real companies and try out the management of occupational risks in practice.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
At the completion of the course, the student shall:
• Explains the importance of risk management in the OSH field.
• Interprets the requirements of legal and other regulations in the field of occupational risk management.
• Describes common hazards (risks) in the workplace and explains the principles of prevention of occupational accidents and diseases for individual hazards (risks).
• Applies the general risk management process (according to ISO 31000) in the OSH field.
• Applies selected procedures, methods/techniques and tools for occupational risk assessment.
• Designs and defends a risk management strategy and plan.
• Develops documentation of occupational risk management.
Course Contents
1. Introduction to the subject (OSH risk management and its importance. Relation to other risk assessments in the field of safety and health. Legal framework of OSH risk management.).
2. The general process of risk management (ISO 31 000) and its application in the area of OSH.
3. Preparing for risk assessment in OSH.
4. Assessment of occupational risks (risk identification, risk analysis, risk evaluation and prioritization): procedures, methods and tools - I .part;
5. Assessment of occupational risks (risk identification, risk analysis, risk evaluation and prioritization): procedures, methods and tools - II .part;
6. Treatment of occupational risks (General prevention principles. Hierarchy of controls. Residual risks and risk transfer. Cost-benefit analysis. Risk treatment plan.) – I. part.
7. Treatment of occupational risks (General prevention principles. Hierarchy of controls. Residual risks and risk transfer. Cost-benefit analysis. Risk treatment plan.) – II. part.
