Summary |
---|
This course introduces students to the broad principles of occupational hygiene as a discipline of anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of hazards that can be encountered in the workplace. Through lectures and practical exercises, students will gain knowledge and skills for measurement of exposure to some key risk factors (chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic). The course will introduce the health risk assessment framework incl. control banding tools and the principles of prevention and reduction of health risks. Specific measures to protect occupational health will be discussed. As part of semester project, students will acquire practical skills in assessing health risks and proposing measures to prevent health risks. |
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit |

A. Define and interpret the requirements of legal and other regulations to ensure OSH in the area of occupational health.
B. Define the risk factors of work environment and discuss their impact on workers' health.
C. Apply appropriate procedures and methods for measuring selected risk factors.
D. Interpret the measurement results for health risk assessment purposes.
E. Process and discuss data for the occupational health risk assessment.
F. Characterize, propose, discuss and defend prevention strategies and tools. |
