Summary
The course deals with the issue of the origin and spreading of fire. It divides them into fires in buildings and in open areas. Defines fire parameters and their importance for space assessment. The course further defines and describes the factors that affect the size of these parameters. It explains what is the free development of a fire, how to determine its area and teaches how to quantify the amount of forces and means for its location. It explains the structure and method of creating firefighting documentation needed to support the decision-making process of the commander.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The aim of the course is to teach students to understand the development of fire and the importance of fire parameters in relation to its development. Students are able to quantitatively estimate the development of a fire, define its area and determine the amount of forces and resources for the chosen procedure - fire defense or attack.
Course Contents
1) Fire and its development - fire zones, forms of fire development;
2) Fire parameters: linear rate of fire spread and rate of fire, area, perimeter and front of the fire; the importance of parameters in enclosed and free spaces;
